Here, they share three common lawn diseases to watch for this summer:

• Dollar Spot: This fungus causes circular brown patches about the size of a silver dollar on your lawn. This kills grass straight down to the roots, which can leave your yard susceptible to scarring and infestation from other weeds. Improper lawn care, such as too little irrigation and fertilization, can exacerbate the problem, as can too much thatch left over from the winter.
• Leaf Spot: When you notice small, brown dots spreading over the leaves, or blades, of grass, you have leaf spot. This is caused by a fungus that loves wet weather, so look for it if you have an unusually rainy period during the height of summer. If you notice similar symptoms in cool weather, you probably have a fungus called “melting out” instead of true leaf spot.
