Lawn Care Calendar

March 1st – April 15th

Apply Fertilizer

Use a balanced slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. You can also apply a pre-emergent at this time if you have not seeded your lawn in the last six months or do not plan to do any seeding this spring.


Seeding

Now is an excellent time to seed any thin areas in the lawn, as long as you have not applied a pre-emergent.


Ornament Trees and Shrubs

Spray with dormant oil as a preventative insect control.


April 1st – May 30th

Apply Fertilizer

Use a balanced slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. You can still apply for a pre-emergent at this time. Start spot spraying for springtime weeds.


Grub Worm Control

Apply now as a preventative. Protects the lawn throughout the rest of the year.

June 1st – July 31st

Apply Fertilizer

Use a balanced slow-release nitrogen fertilizer plus iron. Spot spray for summertime weeds.


Check the Lawn for Insects

i.e., Sod web worms and chinch bugs.


Check Lawn for Diseases

i.e. Brown Patch - Dollar Spot


Raise Mowing Height

To 3 inches during the summer.



August 1st – September 30th

Apply Fertilizer

Use a balanced slow-release nitrogen fertilizer plus iron. Spot spray for weeds. Check for grub worms in late August through September.


Check lawn for diseases.

Best control for diseases is prevention and good cultural practices.

Sep 1st – Oct 31st

Apply Fertilizer

Use a balanced slow-release fertilizer. Spot spray for cool weather weeds.


Aeration

It's one of the best things you can do for your lawn.

Aeration over-seeding.


Winterize your Irrigation System

Seed

Now through October 15th is the very best time to seed your lawn.

October 31st – November 30th

Apply Fertilizer

This should be heavy feeding of a balanced slow-release nitrogen fertilizer. Continue to spot spray weeds as long as temperatures are in the sixties.


December 1st - 31st

Apply Fertilizer

This is the last heavy feeding of a straight nitrogen fertilizer for the year.


Deep Root Feeding

For ornamental trees and shrubs. Feeds trees and shrubs for up to one full year.
